ABOUT OUR ANIMALS

Here at Pet World we like to pride ourselves in being a small locally owned company. With that in mind, whenever possible, it is important that we sell animals from our local community and surrounding areas.

Our Small Animals

All hamsters, gerbils, rabbits and the like are purchased from local breeders, 4H Club Members, and families who breed them for the joy and love of the animal. This helps insure that these animals are well cared for and healthy prior to the customer purchase. We refuse to buy them from wholesalers who do not have the time or desire to give them the care and handling they need to become happy pets.

Our Kittens

All of the kittens we sell at Pet World are purchased from many of our customers whose cats had a litter, most often by mistake. To avoid the less that honest mistakes we will not accept kittens from the same person more than two times per year.

The standards by which we accept kittens are as follows:

  1. Must be 2 lbs in weight. Kittens grow on an average 1 lb per month so 2 lbs would make them 8 weeks old.
  2. We check the eyes, ears and nose to make sure they look clear and clean. We do not accept if not bright eyed and breathing clear.
  3. We go over their coat with a black light. This will make fungal infections and parasites like ringworm glow. If we notice this, we do not accept these kittens.

When we accept the kittens the next step is to take them to the vet for their exam, worming medicine and shots. Once this is done they are ready for sale.

After the customer purchases one of our kittens, our vets offer very good discounts for the exam, booster shots and spay or neuter.

Our Birds

All of Pet World’s large birds, cockatiels, and bigger come from breeders in local areas who hand feed and baby these young birds as member of the family insuring happy, healthy, young birds.

Conures and Parrots

We have been lucky enough to find a wonderful breeder/hand feeder in a neighboring state. All too often we get these birds sometimes weeks after they “should have been” weaned. At times it takes longer because he and his wife are like mother hens and do not like to give up their “children”. Pet World buys exclusively from them because of the outstanding care and attention each bird receives. As a result Pet World carries some of the finest Conures and Parrots in the Midwest.
