Cat owners are often fronted with the question of whether or not they should declaw their cat.  Cats often scratch, and end up ruining furniture costing cat owners a lot of money.  Many cat owners don’t want to declaw their cat.  So, what are the alternatives to declawing your cat?  Below are a few alternatives you might want to try:

  • One of the alternatives is a product similar to double sided tape called Sticky Paws. This works by taping one side to the furniture or item the cat is clawing. When the cat attempts to claw at the item their paw gets stuck on the tape and it becomes uncomfortable, so much that they may stop clawing.
  • Boundary sprays can deter cats from certain areas. If this doesn’t work, you can try put something, such tin foil or a plastic sheet, on the area to deter the cat from scratching.
  • Distracting the cat can also be effective. This can be done by simply building or buying a piece of cat furniture. There are even a variety of catnip sprays to attract them to scratch on the areas you want them to.
